While attending law school, Asiya interned at the immigration and refugee division of the South Ottawa Legal Aid Clinic, where she gained valuable experience in the immigration field. During law school Asiya also interned at the law branch of the Supreme Court of Canada, spent time clerking for a High Court justice in Nairobi, Kenya and volunteered with the Federation of Women Lawyers.
Asiya Hirji joined Mamann, Sandaluk & Kingwell in 2009 where she practices all areas of immigration law, but focuses on hearings before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court of Canada.

- Leobrera v. Canada (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration) 2010 FC 587 Overturning a decision by a visa officer refusing an application for permanent residence in Canada made on humanitarian and compassionate grounds on the basis that the officer had erred in his assessment of the best interests of a child directly affected by the decision.
- Kang Eun Gu v. Canada Minister of Citizenship and Immigration) 2010 FC 522 Overturning a visa officer's decision to deny an application for temporary admission to Canada on the basis that the Applicant lacked the requisite 'temporary intent' upon entering Canada on the basis that the officers decision was both unreasonable and also not in accordance with the Act.
