Legal Assistant – Immigration Litigation (Posted August 18, 2016)

We are a full-service downtown law firm providing assistance in Canadian and US immigration matters. Our litigation department has an immediate opening for a legal assistant with relevant experience. Excellent compensation and benefits package are offered and are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be assisting an immigration litigation lawyer with preparation of all materials and correspondences in relation to applications to the Federal Court and matters before all three divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board. This will include preparing and managing correspondences with clients, tribunals and opposing counsel.

Assistance with the following applications will be typical:

  • Applications for Leave and for Judicial Review before the Federal Court
  • Stay Applications in Federal Court
  • Refugee Claims
  • Pre-Removal Risk Assessments
  • Appeals before the Immigration Appeal Division
  • Humanitarian Applications

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Canadian immigration practices and procedures with over two years of relevant experience in Canadian immigration litigation
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience in PC Law, an asset
  • University Degree an asset
