frequently asked questions

There are many immigration programs, processes and requirements. An immigration lawyer may help with the different parts of the immigration process, such as explaining immigration options, reviewing forms and documents and providing representation during the immigration process.
There are many different immigration pathways that you might pursue depending on many factors, including your goals and eligibility. At the consultation phase, our law firm generally explains an immigration option and sends a detailed breakdown of the expected Attorney and government processing fees.
Some differences between Canadian immigration lawyers and consultants include the education or training required to certify as a lawyer or consultant, the agencies that provide certification and that regulate the professions, and sometimes the areas where each can provide representation. For example, an immigration consultant cannot provide representation in a Federal Court judicial process.
The pre-consultation is typically over the phone and we briefly discuss your immigration situation, goal(s) and timeline. At the end of the pre-consultation, we schedule an actual consultation, at a convenient time, with a member of our team based on the area you want assistance with. During the actual consultation, we answer questions, assess eligibility, review relevant documents and propose and explain immigration solutions and next steps.
We typically charge $250.00 CDN for a consultation of at least a half hour duration. Following the consultation which we will send you a written proposal as to fees and our retainer terms and conditions for the type of legal services you require. The fees are almost always quoted on flat fee basis. If you hire our firm within 30 days of the consultation you'll be given a credit for the full amount of the consultation fee towards your legal fees.
You can start the process with our firm by contacting our firm, discussing your goals and eligibility, beginning to collect the required documents and working with us to submit the appropriate profile or application to the appropriate government agency.
The US and Canada are different countries with different immigration laws. We assist our clients with both Canadian and US immigration. We have US and Canadian immigration lawyers on our team who are here to assist you with immigration to either, or both, countries.
We are happy to have consultations at our office or by phone or by video. Virtual consultations with an immigration lawyer are one option and typically involve a video conference for 30 minutes.
We help clients from around the world with different immigration applications. Most communications, documents and forms can be sent online.
