Be Wary of Social Media Advice About Border Crossings
Joel also cautioned travellers against following popular online advice that may actually increase suspicion at the border. In particular, he warned against travelling with a blank “burner phone” in an attempt to avoid having personal electronic devices examined. Rather than reducing scrutiny, carrying an unused phone may prompt U.S. border officers to suspect that a traveller possesses a second device containing information they are attempting to conceal, potentially leading to more extensive questioning or inspection.
